Story
Until we can wash our hands of deadly illnesses, let's make sure the people of Kenya can wash theirs.
COVID-19 is spreading in Kenya again and the risk to the people and communities that we serve is still very real. The people of Kenya have recently been hit by another wave of the virus which saw the positive infection rate go beyond 25% in March and caused intensive care units to become overwhelmed.
Those living in Kenya are facing uncertain times as they will be experiencing colder weather over the next few months and no one can be sure of how this will affect the spread of the virus.
Our local teams in Bomet have asked us to fund emergency response work to best protect communities in the southwest of Kenya against the spread of coronavirus.
When COVID-19 first reached Kenya in March 2020, our team responded rapidly by planning a joint response with our partners in the Ministry of Public Health. In order to effectively reach as many people as possible we decided to train teams of Community Health Volunteers to roll out a public information campaign across their own communities, which resulted in 30,000 people being better able to protect themselves from COVID-19. You can read more about our emergency response in 2020 here.
Why we need your support now:
Where we work 80% of people have no access to clean water or soap, and therefore no protection against viruses and diseases.
We now urgently need to raise £10,000 to supply face masks, hand sanitizer, handwashing facilities and training to some of the most vulnerable communities and institutions in Bomet and Nakuru counties in Kenya.
The challenge of corona now in Kenya, is a big challenge...but the problem now is that we are going into June and July and it is becoming cold and we don't know what will happen. Justus Tanui
Now, more than ever, safe water and good hygiene can save lives. With your support, we will work alongside local government and authorities to better protect the police service, health centres and local communities from the virus.
£15.14 could pay for 500 masks, helping prevent the spread of Covid-19.
£63.19 could help fund the construction of 20 handwashing facilities in 10 health centres in Nakuru county.
£164.32 could help fund the construction of 52 handwashing facilities in 17 police stations in Bomet county
With your support, we can provide people with both the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves from Covid-19 and other deadly illnesses.
We all understand how the simple act of handwashing plays a vital role in protecting us and the ones we love from the virus so until we can wash our hands of deadly illnesses, lets make sure the people of Kenya can wash theirs.
Donate now to protect lives in Kenya. Thank you.
