Story
Keep Your Pet helps provides older and vulnerable people with support for their pet when they are struggling due to health issues or other emergencies. We offer free fostering, home feeding, dog walking, trips to the vets or whatever it takes to keep the owner and animal safely together. Its not just the pets who benefit; our owners are often then able to access much needed medical treatment and other support they may have been refusing due to concerns about their animal.
During 2020 and through the Covid 19 pandemic, Keep Your Pet, through its wonderful volunteers was able to continue supporting over 100 cases. We have been inundated with owners, family members, social services and hospital staff ringing to ask for advice regarding the care of pets. People have been unable to leave their homes due to self-isolating and therefore have required support taking animals to the vets and collecting food. We have continued helping owners, who are most at risk and have the greatest needs, to walk their dogs throughout lockdown. We have also continued to foster dogs that were already in our care and any new ones that needed help. Owners have been contacted regularly by telephone to have a chat and a catch up. This has been an extremely busy time for Keep Your Pet and the support from our volunteers has been amazing. All that has been sustained without any regular fundraising activities and will continue as long as we have willing and available volunteers.
