Story

For more than 200 years the Abbey Kirk with its tower dedicated to King Robert the Bruce has dominated the Dunfermline skyline. It is a place of worship and pilgrimage, a custodian of local and national history and a venue for comfort and celebration in the life of individuals and of the community. Those of us who appreciate the value of this place want to ensure its future, but nothing is secure or certain without your support and the support of the whole community.

This city landmark could crumble, just like the Palace that shares these surroundings. In the next 3-5 years over £4 million is needed just to make necessary repairs to the fabric of the building. Beyond that a programme of redevelopment to make the space more accessible and more functional could cost a further £4m.

We receive no public funding so the financial burden of keeping the building open falls on the congregation

There has been a centre of Christian Worship on the site of Dunfermline Abbey for over a thousand years. The current congregation recognises its role and responsibility in maintaining the Abbey Church of Dunfermline as a place of worship, and also as a Church which plays a major role in the life of the town of Dunfermline. Those who chose to fundraise for us support the work that we do and the upkeep of our building. Some may choose to support individual projects that are part of the activities of our congregational life. Others may choose to support us in a more general way, allowing us to decide how best to allocate funds.
