In 1997 as part of the South Yorkshire Veteran Lifeguard Cross Channel Relay Team I completed a Channel swim in 15 hours and 43 minutes. There were 6 members of the team and we raised £10,000 for Barnsley Hospital Children's Ward.

26 years later I am attempting the distance again but in a swimming pool. From 20 to 24 March I will be swimming 422 lengths a day to achieve this and raise funds for the Make A Memory Appeal supporting older patients and those living with dementia and The Well which provides complementary therapies and support for cancer patients in Barnsley. Both of these causes are close to my heart and will keep me focused as I tackle the swim.
