Journey to Recovery and Rehabilitation
The rescue video
These four ponies have fallen on hard times.
These are not quick fix ponies. They will require a tonne of care and a lot of patience, having clearly had limited handling.
When a call came in from an elderly lady regarding her four ponies, we knew what we needed to do.
Our first rescue since Robbie’s passing- but having visited them on site we knew we had to help them. Situations like these don’t wait whilst we grieve. Robbie would most definitely have helped them.
These ponies have a list of things that need addressing.
Our biggest concern is the poor condition of one of the ponies hooves. They are cracked and split allowing mud, faeces and bacteria into the hoof wall. The pony will need specialist hoof care to enable them to be pain free.
One pony is incredibly nervous as he has not been handled , his mother has come with him but she is elderly. Their rescue took an entire day. They will need to regain their trust in people before we can deal with their health problems.
The four ponies were kept in an area laden with Ragwort. Ragwort, if digested, can cause life threatening disease, damaging the liver. A serious condition. Blood work will need to be undertaken to rule out any issues with each of the ponies.
One pony is lean and we will want to see him gain some weight. Another has a possible eye ulcer.
Worming will need to be done on each of these nervous ponies and eventually we hope to be able to groom the matts out of their manes and tails which can be quite uncomfortable if left.
Many of you, our wonderful supporters, followed the story of O’Grady and donated towards his recovery. We hope that you will once again open your hearts to help these unfortunate ponies. Without your support and donations we would not be able to be there for desperate animals like these.
Please, help us to help them.
Please help us keep Robbie’s Legacy alive.
Love,
Team Woodfield x
