Help shape the future of journalism at Cal Poly Humboldt—double your impact today!
Support student-run media, storytelling projects, and travel for award-winning Journalism and Mass Communication students as they present at California media conferences.
Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) students create and publish three student-run news products each semester: The Lumberjack newspaper, El Leñador newspaper, and Osprey magazine. In addition, student-run KRFH radio spins 24-hour music tracks and has reported and broadcast the lone local live day-to-day coverage of the Kinetic Sculpture Race, one of the largest spectator events in Humboldt County, for the last three years.
As a former JMC colleague often said: "We run a small media business over here in JMC," and we constantly need financial support to allow students to keep the presses running. El Leñador, for example, is the only bi-lingual publication in Humboldt County. Its monthly stories serve an invaluable role for residents and local businesses in the community.
This work takes time and money to produce and is acknowledged yearly at the California College Media Association/Associated College Press awards ceremony. Humboldt students won 26 awards in March 2025, yet we struggle each year to find funds to send some of them to the ceremony to accept, network, and present at workshops. Help keep student voices strong and the community informed. Your support will fund student-run media and storytelling projects and provide travel opportunities for students to present their award-winning work at statewide media conferences. Every gift helps keep The Lumberjack, El Leñador—the only bilingual publication in Humboldt County—Osprey magazine and KRFH radio thriving. Join us in investing in the next generation of journalists.
