Story

The ACS Hillingdon community has been left saddened by the news that former Athletic Director John Surguy passed away on 9th August 2023. John taught at ACS Hillingdon for 34 years from 1979 – 2014. He began as a PE teacher and became Athletic Director after three years. He will be missed by all of those he taught and worked alongside.

In his memory, Ron and Teresa Judd, whose five children attended ACS Hillingdon, have requested that the ACS Hillingdon alumni & friends community come together to fundraise in memorial of John for his commitment to ACS Hillingdon sports for 34 years. Donations will support ACS Hillingdon’s brand-new sports and wellbeing centre, which will be built next year.

PROJECT SHINE FUTURE VISION

We plan to build a new sports centre as an extension to the existing multi-use Hall. The new space will include a state-of-the-art fitness suite, climbing wall, sports coaching space and a new sports hall dedicated to sporting activities.

This additional large capacity space will benefit all students across all Divisions and allow the Auditorium to be used principally as a performing arts space.

We are starting the work in summer 2023 with a view to opening the new facility in 2024/5.

All donations received will be presented to ACS Hillingdon in John's name.

About the charity

When ACS International Schools started in 1967, so did our commitment to provide high quality international education and to positively impact the communities we serve. Over 50 years on, while trends in education come and go, our founding principles remain. They’re at the heart of everything we do. In 2018, we became a UK-registered charity and ACS International Schools In America Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation, was established in the US. ACS has already invested over £1m in means-tested bursary places, providing opportunities for students to benefit from an ACS education and, in turn, enriching our community. In our next 2023-24 academic year, over 40 students will benefit from bursary places. In addition to the significant sums we already commit, we also invest in campus facilities to enhance our students’ learning and support for teaching excellence.
