Story
I am fundraising for Joey's Tree of Hope Campaign. Joey is now 13 and is getting much bigger and complex. Joey is 1of approximately 12 children in the world that has a rare genetic disorder called VPS4a gene mutation. This means that Joey has a medicine resistant epilepsy and has a VNS (pacemaker for the brain is the best way to describe this device), is peg fed, wheelchair reliant, has to be hoisted and can't do anything for himself so is fully reliant on care and is now approaching 50kg so needs more 2 to 1 care than when he was smaller.
What comes with this is a need for more adaptions in his home. In an ideal world every child like Joey would have DIY SOS come in and help adapt but the reality is this happens to a few families. Joey has a lot of necessary equipment to make his life as fulfilled as possible. We are in a position that we can't move house and need to adapt the downstairs to be as Joey friendly as possible so he doesn't have to go upstairs.
We currently have a through the floor lift but Joey is so big and bashful there will come a time very soon where he won't be able to use this, so we need to adapt the kitchen into a kitchen/lounge area that has hoisted options so he can experience what every child deserves and that is being with his family.
We would be grateful for any donations , people wanting to carry out events that would help us convert Joey's home to be more disabled friendly for his future and enhance his wellbeing and family life.
7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover our core operating costs.
If we raise insufficient funds or surplus funds, the funds will be used, if appropriate, to support our child's needs in accordance with Tree of Hope's charitable objects. If, in those circumstances, we are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of our child in accordance with Tree of Hope's charitable objectives, any funds that cannot be used will be transferred for general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
