James' Jar of Gifts was established in memory of James and aims to raise funds for various projects that help children and young people. Our vision is that NO CHILD SHOULD EVER GET LEFT BEHIND.
James was diagnosed with a very rare immune disorder when he was just 5 years old. This required a bone marrow transplant and a long stay, largely in isolation at Great Ormond St Hospital. Despite putting up a huge battle, James passed away on 12 June 2016, aged just 7.
James loved life - he loved football, golf, lego and his cats. Most of all he loved people. He was kind and loving and this charity honours James' memory by helping as many young people as we can - funding opportunities they would not otherwise have.
This year's 24 in 24 is raising funds for Project Princess in Uganda where only 25% of children complete secondary school. That figure is even lower for girls with over one third of those attending secondary school dropping out due to early marriage. Others drop out due to the lower social status of girls than boys in Uganda as well as teenage (or younger) pregnancy.
We want to help change that. Through Project Princess, James' Jar of Gifts will sponsor around 50 girls aged 12-13 who are particularly vulnerable to dropping out of school. We will pay for their school fees, uniforms, food and period products. We will also fund workshops that will cover HIV and STD awareness, career counselling and practical skills on how to make products as part of a micro business that can be sold in markets.
Our aim is to keep girls in school and for them to realise their true potential. NO CHILD SHOULD EVER GET LEFT BEHIND.
