Story
Im back again and ready to march across the country for Prostate Cancer UK. Ill be walking 4 marathons over 4 days and visiting some iconic football clubs along the way.
So much has changed since the end of my last walk in 2019. Two great friends met me on the finish line that day, are both sadly no longer with us, both victims of prostate cancer.
Last year, we lost the great Ray Clemence to prostate cancer. A terrific goalkeeper and a terrific human being.
I also lost my mate, Lloyd Pinder, to the disease a few months earlier. I met him on the second day of my very first march for Prostate Cancer UK up in Yorkshire. This highlights once more what an indiscriminate disease this is, and its for men like Lloyd and Ray, their families and everyone affected by prostate cancer that we march again.
Prostate cancer hasnt stopped during the pandemic. Its the most common cancer in men affecting one in eight of us in the UK. And those odds shorten to one in four if youre black.
I work in statistics and those figure are unacceptable. Thats why Im marching again this year and raising money for lifesaving research for Lloyd, Ray and everyone affected by this dreadful disease.
Id be so grateful for your sponsorship. Together we can stop men dying.
