The JCCC Department of Fine Art, Photo & Film and the JCCC Art History Department are joining forces to lead a student study tour of New York City at the end of spring semester from May 25 - June 1, 2022. The trip gives JCCC students the opportunity to see, for the first-time, major works of art and culture that they have studied only in slide form. Students are excited about this educational and culturally enriching opportunity, and request your support at any level.
Trip leaders include Dr. Allison Smith and Mark Cowardin. Since 2007, Dr. Smith, Chair of JCCCs Art History and Humanities department, has led student study tours of the art and culture of Europe. Since 2005, Cowardin, Co-Chair of Fine Art, Photo & Film, has taught sculpture at JCCC, and exhibited his own work nationally.
The two are pairing up to lead students through some of the most influential art institutions in the world.
Besides the visual arts, the trip includes performing arts experience as well. With your help, students will be able to attend the 8-time Tony Award winning musical Hadestown.
Additionally, students will take a train from Grand Central Station, along the Hudson River Valley, to the spectacular Dia Foundation to see artwork by some of the most significant artists of the 20th century. In the evening, theyll experience a harbor cruise.
