Story

Jayden was born on November 4th, 2021, weighing 8lb 7oz. Despite a wonderful, uncomplicated pregnancy, Jayden's arrival was fraught with difficulties. He was born blue, floppy, and unable to breathe. It took 18 agonizing minutes for him to take his first breath. Tragically, Jayden had suffered grade 3 Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Due to the severe lack of oxygen, he was urgently transferred to a specialist NICU for cooling treatment, where his tiny body was cooled to 33 degrees for 72 hours in an effort to slow down the process that causes brain damage.

During this critical period, Jayden endured multiple seizures. At just five days old, an MRI revealed severe brain injury in nearly all brain structures. The devastating news from the consultant was that Jayden might not survive without intensive care, and even if he did, his ability to breathe independently was uncertain. We were told that, if he survived, he would face severe impairments, including the inability to feed, suck, swallow, and the need for continuous care.

In a heart-wrenching moment, surrounded by everyone who loved him, we made the agonizing decision to transition Jayden to end of life care, and his ventilator was removed when he was eight days old. Miraculously, Jayden defied the odds. He continued to breathe on his own, began feeding orally a few days later, and after one month, he had his feeding tube removed. Jayden was finally discharged from the hospital on December 3rd, 2021, a day we will never forget.

However, Jayden's challenges are far from over. He has been diagnosed with Bilateral Spastic Cerebral Palsy, Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), Developmental Delay, Epilepsy, and Microcephaly. These conditions mean that Jayden faces immense struggles in reaching developmental milestones. Everyday tasks that many take for granted are significant hurdles for Jayden.

This is why we deeply appreciate your support in providing him with the specialist equipment and therapy he needs for the best chance at independence. These therapies include Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, DMI, HBOT, and Conductive Education. Although some services are available through the NHS, they are very limited.

Jayden has already surpassed all of our expectations. We know that with every additional therapy session funded by your generosity, his physical and cognitive abilities improve, enhancing his quality of life. Your support means the world to us and to Jayden, giving him the best possible future.
