In moments of crisis in rural communities in South Asia, where there is no mental health care, people with severe mental illness are locked in wooden shacks and cages. This puts them at severe risk of developing further health problems, experiencing serious abuse, and dying.
The stigma that surrounds mental health means that people are cut off from their communities, ignored, and mistreated.
A key part of our projects is to work with local and national governments, as well as schools and communities, to change the perception of mental ill health.
We all have the human right to be protected from abuse, exploitation, and inhumane treatment.
Raising £10,000 will train 150 community health workers in the best ways to support and protect victims of abuse and raise awareness to change the perception of mental ill health in Nepal.
