Story

We need your help to enable us to preserve the house where Jane created Emma Woodhouse and Mr Knightley, Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth and where she perfected Elizabeth Bennet, Mr Darcy, Catherine Morland and the Dashwoods. From major structural work to repairing windows and redecorating interiors, your donation is vital to help us protect the house for future generations.

This special Grade 1 Listed building sheltered and inspired Jane for the last eight years of her life, providing her with the safe and secure home she needed to write. When Jane moved here in 1809 the house was already 300 years old, and the building's great age and rich history mean that it is today in need of regular conservation as well as some major restoration work.

If you love Jane Austen and want to help us honour her memory by securing this treasured Austen site, please donate to Janes Fund and help us to continue the story of this most special of buildings.
