Help a child discover the joy of reading for the first time.
Founded by Jane Austen’s family, the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation raises money to support literacy initiatives worldwide, in honour of Jane. The Foundation is run entirely by volunteers and 100% of donations is spent on literacy programs and initiatives.
In this 250th anniversary year, the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation is fundraising to support the work of the National Literacy Trust.
National Literacy Trust supports disadvantaged children in the UK to get the literacy skills they need to succeed with a focus on reading for pleasure.
2 out of 3 children and young people do not enjoy reading during their free time. This is the lowest level recorded in nearly 20 years. Without access to books, children miss out on developing the essential skills that shape their future success, creativity, and emotional wellbeing.
National Literacy Trust’s Literacy Toolkits for primary schools give children access to an amazing diverse selection of books, and provide exciting tailored resources for lessons at all ages to support more children to read for pleasure, no matter their background. Each toolkit costs £850 and will be sent to a school in an area of high need.
Our goal is to raise funds which could provide this brilliant resource for 25 schools to celebrate 250 years since Jane Austen’s birth. Any support you can give would be so gratefully received. You can sponsor a fundraiser, or do a fundraiser of your own. All fundraisers will be featured by the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation online and receive a personal thanks from Caroline Jane Knight, the last of Jane’s nieces from Chawton where Jane herself lived and wrote.
