Story
In November 2022, Bridge of Life will return to Jamaica with a team of volunteers to raise awareness about prevention strategies to slow the progression of kidney disease and prepare patients for dialysis in partnership with University Hospital.
Having access to health care is a right for everyone. This November, a team of 8 volunteers will visit Kingston, Jamaica. Our goal is to reach more than 700 people to provide free chronic disease screenings and preventive education. An estimated 300,000 Jamaicans, or about 12 percent of the population, suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD) with many more not knowing that they have the illness. Additionally, diabetes, stroke and hypertension are leading causes of premature death.
Join Bridge of Life and our volunteer team as we fight to slow the progression of kidney disease by targeting its major culprits diabetes and hypertension by minimizing the risk factors for progression, such as keeping ones blood pressure and sugar controlled, adopting healthier lifestyle habits, as well as providing early screenings.
Bridge of Lifes vision is a world where all human beings have access to quality healthcare. Your support will make that a reality for hundreds of people in Jamaica.
