Story

Addiction can happen to anyone, no one is immune, today more so than ever.

Often people reach a point of crisis because the stigma and shame associated with addiction prevents them from reaching out for help.

Our vision is to enable a future where anyone can find recovery from addiction, restore connection with their families/communities and live a life with dignity, hope and purpose.

In the last 12 months 85% of residents have moved onto independent accommodation and gone on to maintain abstinence for 6 months.

This is a fun event with a very serious purpose.

Your support will give someone the help they need to overcome past trauma, rebuild their life and fulfil their true potential. When you donate you are not only giving someone the gift of recovery, but you are giving that same gift to their loved ones, families, children and community. Help us open the door to a new future, offer a place of safety and acceptance and break the cycle of addiction.

Every £1 invested delivers a SROI of £1:£14.38.

Changes UK will be arresting, charging and putting on trial local business leaders and partners from the local area who, if found guilty of their entirely fictitious crimes, will have to raise a bail of £999 each to be set free.

Jail & Bail is a hugely entertaining courtroom event which sees our fundraisers arrested, charged with their crimes (completely fictitious, of course) and then placed on trial.

If our jailbirds are found guilty of their 'wicked and completely fictional crimes', which they inevitably will, they will be taken into custody, and banished to the cells. They will only be released if they can raise bail of £999 from their connections, including friends, family, colleagues and the general public visiting the prison that day.

This fun and light-hearted fundraiser will raise vital funds for Changes UK at a time where funding for people to access recovery is crucial.

Nic Romano Funding and Partnership Manager says:

We are really looking forward to this event, the support of our local business leaders and partners is crucial as we navigate these challenging times. We are delighted to be able to put on such a fun and entertaining event that will have such a lasting impact on peoples lives in the community.

Talking about addiction and raising awareness through events like these with the support of our community and businesses locally ensures more people feel comfortable reaching out for help.

We are looking forward to seeing the leader boards of all jailbirds involved when they are locked in the cells! They are going to need as much help as they can get from their business contacts, friends and family to raise enough bail to be set free!

We understand that abstaining from drugs and alcohol is just the beginning of building a new life free from addiction; therefore Changes provides services that support the whole recovery journey - from dependence to independence. We provide a detox service, community based rehabilitation, supported and move on housing and opportunities to gain accredited qualifications, volunteering and work experience. Service users at the beginning of their recovery journey are supported 24 hours a day by qualified staff and our specially trained volunteer peer mentors. They also have access to our Recovery Academy which, over an eight week full time course, begins to build the knowledge and skills that service users need in order to maintain their recovery, build a personal recovery support network (including mutual aid groups) and learn to live life to the full. Changes staff and volunteers are passionate people - we all consider it a privilege to work with people in recovery - and we know that we can help those looking for a new life beyond drugs and alcohol.
