Story
Hi everyone,
We hate to be here doing this again, but we need your help. We have over £15,000 of vet bills to clear right now, and the only thing we can do is ask for help.
We are as always, completely at capacity. We have people bringing cats to us despite having no space. Our waiting lists to bring an animal to us now exceed a year long. We are turning away at least ten animals every single day. Even if we created the additional space on site or in foster, financially we can’t manage anymore. We paused our domestic admissions to try and catch up, but animals were brought to us regardless, pregnant or with injuries.
Jackson’s Place is currently home to 15 rabbits, 2 ferrets, 84 cats, and 9 farm animals, and the wildlife centre is currently caring for 79 sick and injured hedgehogs.
The costs are crippling us. Charities of a similar size to us often rely on large donations and legacies to get by, and that’s just never really happened for us as we are still relatively new. We are only 8 years old and we grew so fast that’s it’s now when it’s really affecting us. While we are incredibly proud of our growth, we desperately need to catch up financially 🥺We have the workload and costs of a larger charity that’s been going for many many years, with the financial support of a smaller, new charity, and it’s so hard.
To give you some idea of costs…
- for the vets to sedate and examine a hedgehog is around £30 per hedgehog. While yes, vets will see wildlife for free, with the sheer numbers that we need seeing, no vets could do this, and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our vets. We usually have 3-5 hedgehogs per week day needing this treatment at this time of year, which is a cost of around £1800 per month.
- For a cat to be vaccinated, neutered and microchipped is a cost of around £150 per cat. We only ask for a £95 adoption fee, and we still get complaints about that.
- Our energy and water bills at Jackson’s Place exceed £1500 per month.
- One bottle of painkillers for the hedgehogs costs £180, at this time of year, this may only last us two weeks
- We are currently spending £50 per week on cat litter 🤯
We have so many poorly cats with us that have cost thousands and thousands in vet bills. Flori has needed huge amounts of dental work, Benjamin has IBD, Jorge has steroid resistant IBD and has needed very expensive chemotherapy medication, Jasper had major surgery to his ear and now has further skin issues, and we have many kittens with flu requiring lots of different treatments.
We have so many kittens that we are spending £20 per day on wet kitten food to keep their little bellies full 🥺 We had 12 more kittens born on site just yesterday 🤯
So how can you help?
- The biggest help for us right now is financial donations, and even a £1 would help us. With almost 30k followers on the page, if everyone donated just a £, everything would be amazing.
- Please like, share, and comment on this post. The Facebook algorithm doesn’t show all our posts to everyone who follows us, so if you interact with the post then that really helps!
