Story
Back in November 2020 we started a very special project.
Jacks Snacks provides hot food and a reason to engage for those who most need it. Operating out of our needle exchange in Keighley this popular service has been running in memory of Jack Spalding.
The work continues
Thanks to your donations so far we have been able to branch out. Working in partnership with Keighley Community Kitchen we have able to offer hot meals, available in the needle exchange or to take away, whenever people need them.
Please keep donating. It has been a it has been such a difficult year for so many people, help us continue supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community
Jack
For many years Jack ran the Needle Exchange in Keighley, offering specialist harm reduction advice and providing clean, safe equipment for anyone who needed it. He initially worked for Project 6 and then CGL when they took over the running of NEX. Jack was someone who really cared about the people who came to the needle exchange and was always looking for ways he could help improve the lives of those most in need.
Jack died last year. To help continue the work he started, Jack's family and Project 6 are fundraising for Jack's Snacks, hot food served from the Needle Exchange for anyone who needs it.
"We have created this project in memory of my brother, Jack Spalding."
"Jack was born in Cornwall and this is where he stayed until about 10 years ago when he was offered a job in Keighley with Project 6 (later working for CGL). This new role was not just a job for Jack, he truly loved his work and felt so passionately about what he was doing. He was always first to defend the rights of others, providing a voice for those who felt they were not heard and not cared about.
A few years ago, at Christmas, we asked Jack what he would like as a gift. Jack had just started to provide free refreshments at the weekend to anyone who needed it, based out of the Needle Exchange where he worked. He asked us to give him money to contribute towards this rather than any gift.
After Jacks tragic death this year, we felt that it would be great if we could continue on with this service in his honour. Jack's Snacks will provide refreshments three times a week to anyone who requires it in Keighley and by CGL in Bradford.
Jack continued to help and support others right up until his death, let us continue on his behalf."
