Story

Isaac experienced a hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) event when he was born in September 2023 due to getting stuck during birth. This means that he went without sufficient oxygen, which caused an injury to his brain. He received amazing care, including his whole body being cooled for 72 hours in the NICU. He spent his first three weeks there, but we later learned that the injury would affect his movement and coordination for the rest of his life.

This led to a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, meaning that he will face challenges with mobility and motor skills. Isaac is amazing and is working with incredible determination to surprise us with what he can do. To support him in this, he is receiving physiotherapy at Children in Motion, who provide specialist treatment using the MAES approach. Isaac makes wonderful progress through them, and they also help us as parent to know how to help him best.

Through them we have found the best walker for him, and he now loves to move about with it. He is working on sitting independently, crawling up off the floor, and standing unaided for a few seconds at a time! They have also helped us with orthotics, shoes, coordination with Nursery.

Treatment is £107.50 per hour, and we would love to continue to take Isaac weekly. The cost is obviously a challenge, so any help would make a difference in what we can provide for him. We are also investigating speech and language options, and have been told to expect to buy an expensive leg brace orthotic too. This treatment is obviously also an ongoing expense. Isaac is exceeding expectations with this therapy, and we are so proud of him.

We are using Tree of Hope as a fundraising partner to benefit from Gift Aid and to give our supporters the confidence that any donations will be handled well.

Another way you can support Isaac is through Easyfundraising. This scheme donates money if you shop online in through their website or app, on your normal online shopping websites. We are just starting to use it and already it is helping, so the more the merrier -https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/tree-of-hope-therapy-for-isaac!

7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover their core operating costs.

If we raise insufficient funds, or surplus funds, the funds will be used, if appropriate, to support our child’s needs in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objectives. If, in those circumstances, we are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of our child, any funds that cannot be used will be transferred to support the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
