Story

It was with deep sorrow that we announced yesterday, the sudden passing of Robbie Bartington, the beloved founder of Woodfield Animal Sanctuary. Robbie dedicated her life to rescuing and caring for animals, overcoming any obstacle to save lives and protect those in need. Since 2013, she and her husband, David, have rescued over 500 animals in the Gower, transforming their small holding into a sanctuary of hope and healing.

Friends and supporters of Robbie have already been sharing their heartfelt tributes:

“Robbie was an incredible and selfless person—she will be so missed by everyone who knew her and, of course, the animals.”

“Robbie was a wonderful lady, loved by so many, who went above and beyond for all the animals she came into contact with. We have lost a truly unique soul.”

“So very sad... Robbie was one in a million, whose love and dedication to animals was unsurpassed. The world is a sadder place without her, but look at the legacy she has left. O'Grady, [the very malnourished pony] would not be here but for Robbie going out in the storm to find him and all the work everyone put in to save him.”

“Robbie was such an incredible human, she put animals above her own health and welfare every day. She and David have saved so many; this is truly a heartbreaking tragedy.”

In her own words, Robbie once shared:

“Since 2013, when my husband and I moved to a small holding in Gower with a view to enjoying a relaxing retirement(!), we have rescued over 300 ponies, many from local commons who would otherwise not have survived due to their emaciated condition and, in some cases, injuries from road accidents. We also take in orphaned lambs, cats, and dogs—in fact, any animal who needs a safe home for the rest of their life.”

About the charity

In 2013 we moved to Gower to retire but after seeing so many abandoned and emaciated ponies we turned our home into a Sanctuary for them as a “save haven” to be cared for and rehabilitated. We have rescued over 300 animals, only accomplishing this with the generosity of our wonderful supporters.
