Story

A huge thank you to all those who donated to the Shiplake College Boat Club in Bill's memory. A boat will be named after him and details of a naming ceremony will be sent out in due course.

Bill Eaton was a member of the first cohort of Shiplake College pupils and remained a huge supporter of the School. He was the name behind the Eaton Prize, an award presented at Prize Giving that recognises the two pupils who have shown the most significant academic progression across the academic year. The prize was highly coveted as it gave the recipients something exciting - a flight in Bills helicopter.

Bill was also proud to be a member of the incredibly successful 1964 rowing crew. This four won novice fours at Wallingford Regatta then went on to achieve 21 wins out of 23 races triumphing at several other regattas. After the win at Wallingford, the school bought its first new boat - a clinker four, each of the crews parents contributed by buying an oar.

In 1989, then again in 2014, the crew reunited on the water to celebrate the 25th then 50th anniversaries of the 1964 summer on the water.

Bill Eaton died on 5 February 2021. If anyone would like to make a donation in his memory this will go towards naming a boat after him as part of the Shiplake College Boat Club.
