Story
As part of our planning to re-open the railway post Covid we have identified the need for some major infrastructure work to keep the railway operating safely. This includes completing a planned relay of 500 yards of track at Harmby, renewing the worn-out crossing decks at Wensley and Smiths crossings, renewing Swale bridge timbers and several spot track repairs where our patrollers have identified and documented issues.
With the help of the Army we were able to renew 300 yards at Harmby, re-timber swale bridge and replace Wensley crossing. With the start of the new year we are pushing forward and replacing an additional 200 yards at Harmby, and replacing Smiths crossing. We have also identified over three miles of lineside fencing that need to either be repaired or replaced in the short time. This work is being carried out completely in house with our own team of engineers and volunteers. Again this work requires a level of investment in materials which, due to no income from ticket sales during Covid, we need to appeal to our supporters and members to assist with.
On the plus side this work is going to pay dividends in the future as we plan to re-open when the pandemic situation allows.
Your generosity will really make a difference thank you and stay safe.
