Story
Hundreds have been killed and many thousands severely affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit central Indonesia on Friday 29 September. The 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit Sulawesi at around 18:00 local time, and was followed by a tsunami with waves up to six metres high.
Unicef is helping the Government of Indonesia to provide life-saving supplies and services to affected children and families. Unicef is especially concerned for the safety and wellbeing of children who have lost their homes, those who are sleeping rough, and those who have been separated from their families. Children also face extra risks to their health without nutritious food and clean water.
When disasters strike, Unicef is ready to respond with whatever children need to survive and to help them rebuild their lives. Unicef needs your help to provide children and families with life-saving support and supplies.
You can support children affected by this disaster, by fundraising for Unicef and donating to our emergency appeal. Thank you for your support.
