In memory of Emily Turner, Women’s Lives Leeds Project Manager, we have this dedicated page for donations in supporting the Women’s Night Safe Space Bus. A project which would not have been possible without her. We know she spent every last bit of energy and passion she had telling people to “Save The Bus!”
Women’s Night Safe Space is based in Leeds city centre every Saturday night, and on the first Friday of the month providing crucial services and a non-judgemental safe space for women and girls.
The team provide safety guidance, medical assistance, free phone charging, support with ordering taxis, a safe place to report incidents to the police, and help signposting to longer term support. Women can also access free items such as period products, condoms, water, warm drinks and flip flops.
Emily bravely pioneered Women’s Night Safe Space from the pilot in March 2022. We are proud and privileged to say this service has gone on to support over 2,500 women and girls.
We won the BACIL Outstanding Contribution to Female Night Time Safety Award in 2023 and had a great night dancing and celebrating the love and solidarity Emily builds and shares with so many.
She was an advocate and ambassador for highly skilled and experienced outreach work, Women’s Night Safe Space would not be the lifesaving, life changing whilst incredibly fun project it is today without her.
If you have any questions or would like to get in touch please do contact Shreena Gobey, Women’s Night Safe Space Coordinator, ShreenaG@leedswomensaid.org.uk 07442157857.
Women’s Night Safe Space is a collaboration between the 12 organisations in the Women & Girls Alliance Leeds, who deliver Women’s Lives Leeds. This is a formal partnership, with the lead organisation being Leeds Women’s Aid. Leeds Women’s Aid carries the contract and the funding for the bus, so the Just Giving page is in their name. 100% of the money raised through this Just Giving page will go purely to the Women’s Night Safe Space bus.
