The Institute for Medical Innovation (IMI) is being built on a simple but powerful idea: when brilliant minds come together, breakthroughs happen faster. At the University of Southampton, this approach has already transformed what is possible through the Centre for Cancer Immunology. It has shown that when barriers are removed, breakthroughs are accelerated and lives of patients are changed.

The IMI wants to take this success and expand on it. It will bring together medics, scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and data specialists to focus on some of the most complex and devastating diseases of our time: Cancer, dementia, sight loss, infectious diseases, and respiratory and allergic illnesses.
