Millions of children and mothers living in the Horn of Africa are at risk of being exposed to infectious tropical diseases. One of the most common is a parasitic worm known as soil-transmitted helminths, which, left untreated, can lead to severe health issues, including malnutrition, anaemia, and impaired physical and mental development.
Intestinal worms thrive in warm climates and communities with poor sanitation and hygiene and a lack of access to clean water. Over 7.6 million children at at-risk mothers require treatment for this tropical disease.
But there's hope. A safe, effective, and low-cost solution exists: a small deworming tablet that is taken twice a year and costs only 78p.
International Health Partners has partnered with World Concern to help treat and prevent STH infections completely free of charge. Donated shipments from IHP provide Mebendazole, a preventative deworming medication recommended for children and at-risk women.

“When my children get sick, they often feel drowsy and have a high fever. This often means that they miss school, particularly the younger ones who go to preschool. If we didn’t have access to Mebendazole through the health outreaches, we wouldn’t be able to access it as we would need to look for transport to be able to reach the nearest healthcare facility which is very far away. To all the supporters who have made this possible, thank you so much and may God bless you as you have helped us a lot.”
By providing high-quality medicines and medical supplies to medical professionals, we can help save lives. But we can’t do this on our own. That is why we are asking you to support our deworming programme.
