Story
In Tanzania donkeys are facing a gruelling future, with many still being poached and slaughtered for their skins.
The collagen from donkey skin produces ejiao, a traditional Chinese medicine, and as a result almost six million donkeys across the globe are slaughtered for their skins every year.
These donkeys more often than not belong to villagers who protect and care for them, but without adequate resources, many don’t stand a chance and end up losing their donkeys at the hands of cruel poachers who later go on to slaughter them, or to wild predators such as hyenas who attack them in open terrain.
Throughout 2024, IAPWA are supporting with the build of Donkey Shelters in villages across the Kahama District of Tanzania. These shelters will provide vulnerable donkeys with a safe space to rest, rather than being at the mercy of cruel poachers and predators.
We need your support to build these life-saving shelters. It costs just £32 to build one entire shelter that can house and protect multiple donkeys. That’s right, a one-off donation of £32 can quite literally give multiple donkeys peace and protection, rather than death and despair.
Whether you can fund the build of one entire shelter, or simply contribute a small donation to support this appeal, we will be so grateful. Thank you for supporting this crucial work to advance donkey welfare in Tanzania.
