Emergency Appeal: Hurricane Melissa Response

Hurricane Melissa has brought devastation to Jamaica and neighbouring nations, leaving communities in urgent need of support. The British Province of the Moravian Church is raising funds to assist those affected.

Story

Hurricane Melissa has caused severe damage across Jamaica — not only in the towns and cities seen on the news, but especially in smaller rural communities in the western and central regions, where Moravian congregations have been part of the community for generations. Almost all 36 congregations have sustained some level of damage.

In places like Springfield and Carmel, whole communities have been displaced as homes and infrastructure have been severely damaged or destroyed. Assessments of the impact continue as communication is slowly restored but it is clear that there is widespread devastation and distress. The recovery process will take time.

Roads remain blocked, and access to shelter, clean water, food, and emergency aid is limited.

Your giving through this appeal will support the supply critical relief items to these communities and ongoing provincial coordination. Funds will be sent through the Moravian Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, and trusted partners.

Thank you for your giving.
