The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is excited to present the fifth annual Hunger Heroes food and fundraising competition! You are invited to challenge yourself and your neighbors local businesses, sports teams, social clubs, youth groups and even families to become Hunger Heroes in our community.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a public health and economic crisis, the effects of which are widespread. The repercussions include added hardship for populations already facing challenges making ends meet, as well as a significant increase in the number of people experiencing food insecurity. According to Feeding America, there are now more than 45 million individuals in the U.S. who are food insecure. People are now paying higher prices for their groceries, including a 40-year record rise in food costs. Combined with rising fuel prices, our neighbors continue to turn to the Foodbank and our vast network of partner agencies for assistance.
Since the crisis began, food banks have faced a perfect storm that includes surges in demand, declines in food donations due to supply chain challenges, and other disruptions to the charitable food assistance systems operating model. The best time to become a Hunger Hero is now. Will you join us?
