Story
Sam the Man, our resident fitness guru and bodybuilder extraordinaire, is going to do a tandem paraglide with our local MP, Mark Eastwood, Conservative MP for Dewsbury. This is his chance to scare the life out of a Member of Parliament and boy will he do that!
On 14th August (weather permitting) Sam and Mark will be jumping off a hill in Yorkshire (exact venue to be confirmed depending on weather conditions) to raise money for Howlands (Dewsbury and District League of Friendship).
Sam says, “In the world of paragliding we like to think it’s better to be up there wishing you were down here than down here wishing you were up there. Mark is very brave to risk coming up there with me; whether I let go or bring him back down safely is a different matter. Joking aside, this is about doing something a bit crazy to try and make as much money as possible for Howlands, which has a special place in my heart and does wonderful things for many, many people. Please give generously if you can.”
This is your chance to contribute much needed funds to Dewsbury Town Centre’s largest and only fully accessible community centre, a centre that is vital to the wellbeing of many people and that holds a valuable history of supporting the local community over 70+ years. Howlands needs your support, let’s keep this wonderful place going.
Some of our regular attendees say it better than we can:
“Coming here in the morning gives me a reason to get up and gives me a purpose to the day, instead of watching TV all day”
“We have been attending the coffee morning for around forty years, met many friends and we have a lovely morning out.
It’s so good that we have somewhere to meet up that’s easy to get to. We would be gutted if this place closed.”
“So easy to get to, it’s nice and clean and makes you feel safe”
“Coming to my group here makes me feel part of something”
