Story
Support our brave hikers taking on this unique 7 peak Mourne wall challenge for its 100 year anniversary! Our hikers take on this amazing feat for a vital cause: Hosford Homelessness Services.
Hosford is the homeless service of East Belfast Mission based in the Skainos Centre on the Lower Newtownards Road in East Belfast and for over 20 years Hosford has provided services to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Hosford provides two main services a homeless hostel containing 26 rooms/apartments for people who have lost their home and a Tenancy Support Service. The tenancy support service is available for people who have their own home to help them maintain their independence and avoid homelessness. This work is about preventing homelessness and its associated suffering. Hosford provides one-to-one support individually tailored to the needs of Hosford residents and also people within the local community.
On site there are many services which our clients can avail of: employability service, counselling, Alcoholics Anonymous, Irish classes, Age NI, EBM congregation and church, and volunteer opportunities in various projects.
Hosford runs many projects providing people with opportunities to learn new skills, meet people, regain lost confidence and to break out of homelessness and maintain independence. These groups include; a football project (run in partnership with Street Soccer NI), Going Green (gardening and environmental group), health and well-being groups, art groups, and more.
The work at Hosford is fundamentally about saving lives through the provision of accommodation and the prevention of homelessness. They support individuals to make positive changes in their lives, overcome the traumas they have experienced and help them to build a better future.
