Story
Here at Horsham District Foodbank we have seen the impact of Covid-19 upon people in our local community. This is borne out by the statistics: in the previous financial year we provided emergency food to 2,900 people and in this current financial year, with months still to run, we have already fed 10,000 people struggling with food poverty.
It's very clear from our conversations that many people are turning to the foodbank for the first time in their lives. People, who through no fault of their own have been made redundant or put on furlough. Every day the news tells us of another retail outlet closing down and casual workers & the self-employed are particularly affected as many did not fall under the Government's support scheme.
Horsham Foodbank provides safe, non-contact delivery of 3 days emergency food including long-life and fresh food by doorstep delivery, supplied by our generous community and company donations. In spite of lockdown #3 we are progressing new initiatives to improve the reach of our service into the more rural areas of our patch, the continued roll-out of our supermarket-style Foodbanks and a budgeting advice service.
However, the Foodbank is struggling to meet demand for food parcels and has been greatly affected financially by our Charity shop being closed, giving us a shortfall of £80,000 in the last year. Any donation, large or small will contribute enormously to keeping the Foodbank running and we'd like to thank you in advance for your support.
