Story
On 1st August much of Hook experienced flash flooding. The effects of this were severely felt at the heart of the community in Hook Infants School. Almost all of the classrooms, the school hall, the library and corridors, the office, and the rainbow room were underwater, in some places up to a foot deep.
At the time children in the Koosa holiday club watched on as water poured in, and many of the school staff who were on their holidays rushed in to help save what they could, many working late into the night.
Whilst insurance will cover carpets, furniture, and decoration, there is so much else which is not covered. Things that are irreplaceable, such as soft furnishings in cosy corners or book nooks. These are often things which have been brought in by Teachers or LSAs, made specially, or donated by friends of the school.
The resources cupboard was badly affected, with stocks of paper, card, and other materials ruined. Of course as the school is cleaned up, more will be found.
In a few weeks, we are sure there will be appeals for donations of things to bring the character back to the classrooms, but at the moment the school is not ready to take them.
In the meantime, the HSCA is launching a fundraising page to raise funds for Hook Infants to be used to replace resources which are not covered by insurance. The school budgets are already very tight, and every pound you give will ensure the school can continue to deliver a fantastic learning environment for the children.
Please help Hook Infant School by donating whatever you can to help the school rebuild.
HSCA is a registered charity number 281872 with the objective of raising funds to advance the education of the pupils at both Hook Schools. This particular fundraising campaign will raise funds for Hook Infants School who were severely affected by flash flooding, and all funds raised will be donated to the school for use in replacing resources lost.
