Home Not Alone: Solidarity with local brain injury survivors in lockdown

Social isolation is hard on us all, but for survivors living with longterm disabilities, existing mental and physical health issues will deteriorate without support. Help protect them and their carers from loneliness, depression and further illness.

Story

UPDATE, May 18th. Together, we've smashed the target, with one day to go!

Thank you everyone for your donations and messages of hope and support: we couldn't be happier.

******************************************************************************************

UPDATE: You've come together to help us reach an amazing 66% of target in the first week! Thank you. This means so much.

Special shouts to Headway member Lawrence, who completed a sponsored challenge at home with his pedalling machine. We also received two major anonymous donations, which boosted our fundraising by £2,500.

We are busy making sure that our community is not missing out on the support, friendship and positivity that makes Headway East London so special. Check out our instagrams to keep up with our community news and our art studio's activities - our blog - and check out our brand new #HomeNotAlone t-shirt range , a springtime collab between members of our day service and local artists. All proceeds will be added to the campaign total.

With love and thanks, Headway East London xx

The campaign: For hundreds of brain injury survivors and their families, our Hackney day service and home support work is a lifeline. Due to covid-19 we've had to radically change our services to ensure people continue getting practical and emotional support, stimulation and friendship during a traumatic time.

Living with the physical and emotional effects of brain injury, survivors are especially vulnerable to loneliness and the worst consequences of the virus. Many will have to remain home for quite some time after lockdown is lifted, for their safety. Our team is working flat out, making hundreds of calls to them and their families to assess what they need and making it happen. We will keep our community safe at home - but not alone!

We've taken a big hit on our income and we need your help. By donating, you're helping to ensure that we continue providing stability and comfort to some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Please give £25 - or anything you can. Your donation will help pay for:

- CRISIS INTERVENTION: hundreds of daily welfare calls to solve financial, physical and emotional crises.

- PERSONALISED ACTIVITY PACKS: creative and practical project materials posted and emailed regularly.

- PHYSICAL & MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT: one-to-one remote counselling and therapy sessions for those at risk of deterioration.

- EMERGENCY DELIVERIES: food, medication and essentials direct to those most isolated and in need.

- PROTECTION FROM LONELINESS: online groups, friendship calls and creative projects maintain the social networks and community space of our day service - bringing people together while we're apart.

If you've ever considered supporting Headway East London, now is the time!
