Story

Our aim is to Bring Joy into the lives of UK seniors who may be isolated from family and friends. We need your help to provide books, puzzles, e-books, communication tools and assistive technology to seniors in their own home. Isolation can be a very stressful time and can be challenging for both mental and physical wellbeing.

By providing activities and communication tools we aim to reduce feelings of loneliness and keep people mentally and physically active until they are able to socialise once more.

Some of the benefits of puzzle solving for adults is enhancing skills such as: Research; Critical Thinking; Cognitive Ability; Concentration.

When working out a puzzle, whether that be a crossword or a Sudoku, logical reasoning needs to be applied. Therefore, not only are puzzles great fun they also provide entertainment and learning.

Colouring-in relieves stress and worry and has stress reducing benefits. It calms the part of the brain related to the stress/fear response and stimulates the part of the brain that is responsibility for logic and creativity. In 2005, a study documented reduced anxiety in participants after only a short time of colouring in geometric patterns. Colouring for at least 5 minutes before bedtime is said to help you sleep better, while colouring therapy is used experimentally to treat anxiety and stress related disorders.

£5 will pay for an activity book of cross words, sudoku and other puzzles to keep the mind active.

£10 will pay for colouring book and pens

In addition, where needed, we will look to support requests for assistive technology and activities such as e-books, communications tools and other ways we can support seniors with specific needs and disabilities.

£15 will pay for e-books

£130 will buy a Facebook portal device

£330 will pay for 6 months use of a GrandPad communication device specially designed for seniors with touch sensitive screens and large buttons to keep connected to loved ones.

Please help, our seniors really need your support at this time.
