Story
Ugandan girls futures are under threat.
Girls who were previously thriving now face unthinkable choices just because they are female.
1 in 10 girls we work with tell us theyve had transactional sex in exchange for pads and toiletries since the start of the pandemic.
Irises programme, Rise-Up, enables girls to earn their own income, escape gender based exploitation and stay in school through pairing them with an Entrepreneur Mentor and providing start-up capital for their businesses.
Helping girls earn as little as the cost of a cup of coffee each month can transform the power they have over their bodies and lives, increasing their status in their home and community.
Just £50 provides a girl with training and start-up capital- giving her what she needs to build a better future for herself.
We need you to stand in solidarity with Ugandan girls by joining our Hike for Period Justice to raise funds to help girls like Leilah realise their full potential.
Period Justice requires a global community standing together- will you rise to the challenge?
Meet Leilah (on the left below)...
She didn't believe it when the Irise team first came to tell her about the Rise-Up programme- she thought it was unlikely people would give her money to do what she wanted with. When they did she quickly put it to good use, setting up a small business with her friends so they could earn their own income to meet their needs.
Thank you Irise for seeing capability in us"
