Story

Every Step You Take Makes a Difference!

Join us for the 16th Annual Hike for Hospice Huntsville, at Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve. The Hike is held in support of Hospice Huntsville’s programs and services. When you participate, you will be hiking/walking/running to help ensure our community members receive the end-of-life care they wish for and deserve. Funds raised by all of the participants will stay in our community and assist Hospice Huntsville in providing care and support at no cost to individuals and their families who are facing end of life.

The Hike for Hospice is a meaningful way to celebrate and honour our loved ones. Take time to visit the Memory area where you can write a note to your loved one and hang it on the Memory Branches, which will be planted along with the notes in the beautiful gardens at Algonquin Grace. The Hospice Huntsville Wind Phone will be back, where one can ‘make a call’ to their loved one and to share their thoughts and feelings. It will be set up to be a private experience for anyone who uses it. New this year, for families whose loved one was at Algonquin Grace there is an opportunity to write your loved one’s name on a river rock, which will be added to the new gardens at Algonquin Grace. Find your loved one’s name on an art card to take home with you. The art cards will become a new installation at Algonquin Grace

There are also several activities and exhibits to experience while you are waiting for the warm up and opening ceremonies. A sneak peek includes: learn to line dance; pet a goat with Muskoka Goat Away: sign up for a leg/foot massage after the Hike with Julie from Muskoka Retreat & Wellness Clinic, visit the Hospice Huntsville tent and consider buying a t-shirt or a Heart for Hospice, Visit Hayley’s tent, where, for a donation, she is selling butterfly necklaces (created/put together by herself); enjoy coffee, a sweet treat, some music and have your family or team photo taken.

The Opening Ceremony will include lighting a candle and a moment of silence, followed by the piping of Amazing Grace and then the commencement of the Hike. At the end of your Hike please join us for a BBQ, sponsored by the Dwight Lions Club and enjoy the music of Joe’s Garage Band.
