Story
WORLDwrite has been hit hard by the Covid-19 lock-down, as many people have. We had to close our Volunteer centre and have been unable to provide our free film and TV training to young adults or continue film and programme making. Yet we have still had to pay our centre rent and bills which come to £2500 per month and found no relief to cover it. We have been unable to access grants, gain our usual filming commissions or host paying groups. We do hope to avoid joining the closed for good list and to re-open in October as we believe the work we do is needed now more than ever.
The profoundly anti-social nature of lock-down has been compounded by political ideas which further isolate and divide us by age, gender and ethnicity. As well as helping young adults gain new skills, our commitment to a common humanity, universalism, democracy, global equality and freedom equips us to help them challenge anti-human ideas and put the case for social-solidarity.
We have had over 1000 applications and inquiries from young people during lock-down. We want to re-open our doors to them. We want to run training packages and make programmes which tackle the latest prejudices from racial thinking to historical illiteracy to fear and to champion all that is great and possible. We have award winning films we would like to start screening again too and run real discussions around, on C.L.R. James, Sylvia Pankhurst and more, films which put our common humanity and capacity to change the world together, centre stage. Can you help us? Whatever you can chip in will make a huge difference. Our re-opening will give a lot of young people a chance to grapple with big ideas, learn with professional film gear and to discover working together with people in the flesh is best.
Thank you so much for your help
