Avian flu has decimated the wild bird population. Swan Support is dedicated to the safe retrieval and disposal of swans and other water fowl in the Thames Valley and surrounding areas. Your support will help us continue this vital work.
In November 2021 Avian Flu reached the Thames Valley area. Since then, Swan Support has retrieved over 50 dead swans plus other water fowl. In addition the charity has been feeding the flock at Windsor, in order to protect the health of the public and minimise the risk of spreading the disease to other areas as swans fly off in search of food.
These beautiful and majestic birds need your help. Our rescuers have gone above and beyond with this work. Kitted up in full PPE, they monitor the lakes and rivers where the disease is known to have arrived, and remove dead birds as soon as possible. Whilst it is stressful and heartbreaking work, our rescuers believe it is vital to offer this public service to help contain the spread of this disease and the devastating impact on the swan population.
This work is in addition to the normal volume of rescues carried out by us 24/7 and has taken it's toll on our resources. We are urgently in need of support to assist with the unexpected cost of extra fuel, PPE and food costs for the supplemental feeding of the flocks.
Your donation will make a huge difference, giving us the resources to continue with this work, until the disease has run its course.
