For the last 80 years Ferne has been providing care and refuge for unwanted and abandoned animals in the South West of England. Located in Somerset we are home to over 300 long-term residents, and rehome cats and dogs within a 40 mile radius.

Story

The very dry conditions over the summer, combined with a late and dry spring this year have led to much smaller hay yields, with some farmers reporting a harvest of 45 – 50% less than normal. The low yields and lack of good grass means that we have had to supplement some of our animals with hay from July!

Over the cold, wet months when lots of our animals move inside and pasture grazing is not possible, hay becomes such a vital resource, and our reserves are already running low.

To keep our animals fed and happy we need to purchase an additional 1000 bales which with the conditions this year will be extremely challenging to source and will cost us £5000!

Please help to refill our barn and buy the forage our four-legged residents need over the coming months. Every single donation will make a difference and help keep those bellies full.

Should we be lucky enough to exceed our target, the additional funds will go towards the other costs of keeping our animals warm over the winter months.
