Renesmee was born at 27 weeks and 4 days due to premature rupture of membranes, on-and-off bleeding from 14 weeks, and no amniotic fluid after 20 weeks. At 24 weeks, I was rushed to the hospital due to heavy bleeding, where I received medication to help develop her lungs. After 48 hours, I was discharged on strict bed rest with weekly checks. At 27 weeks and a few days, I suddenly went into premature labor, and Renesmee was born weighing just 2lb 5oz.
It was a rocky road—141 days in NICU across two hospitals, Addenbrooke’s and Peterborough. Renesmee needed almost every ventilating system available, including CPAP, high-flow, low-flow, and the bubble machine. She faced an onset of sepsis, her right lung collapsed, and, 24 hours after being transferred to a Level 5 hospital, her left lung collapsed as well. She required two chest drains to remove fluid. Renesmee finally came home 7 weeks past her due date, on NG feeding and oxygen. She has chronic lung disease and cannot feed from bottles due to oral aversion.
The last four years have been very challenging, with six hospital admissions for colds, which required her to be ventilated and sedated. Renesmee is non-verbal and non-mobile and was recently diagnosed with bilateral cerebral palsy. She is also on a waiting list for autism assessment.
We want to create a safe, colorful environment for her, as she struggles with sleep, staying awake at night and sleeping during the day. Renesmee loves lights, and we believe she would greatly benefit from a special bed designed to meet her needs.
We are asking for support in helping Renesmee achieve her goals and giving her the best start in life.
