At Imperial Health Charity we support the five London hospitals of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust - Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlottes & Chelsea, St Mary's and the Western Eye. We fund major refurbishments to hospital buildings, pioneering research and extra medical equipment above and beyond what the NHS can do on its own.
Recently, the NHS staff were facing the most extreme pressure. As our front-line heroes worked tirelessly to respond to this unprecedented demand, we were helping our hospitals by providing extra support - so they could continue to offer the best possible care for patients and their families.
With your support, we were able to provide emergency funds to help hospital staff cope with the extraordinary demands of fighting the virus. At the same time, we were able to come to the aid of those vulnerable patients who faced sudden and unexpected financial difficulties as a result of their time in hospital.
Thank you so much for the support that you gave to help our hospitals fight coronavirus.
Anything we have raised over and above what might be needed in the current crisis will go towards helping our hospitals continue to provide exceptional care in the future.
Thank you for your support.
How your support has made a difference
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, we received incredible support from thousands of donors. Your generous gifts enabled us to provide urgent support for our hospitals in three key areas: supporting staff wellbeing; offering financial aid to vulnerable patients and their families; and improving our hospitals technology and infrastructure.
Thanks to your support, we were able to:
- fund an expansion of the staff counselling service, CONTACT, providing additional mental health and wellbeing support for NHS staff through one-to-one and group sessions
- distribute more than 120 virtual visiting tablet devices for patients recovering in isolation, keeping patients entertained while in hospital and enabling them to speak to their family and friends via video call
- set up 70 calming rest areas for staff, known as wobble rooms, in which hospital workers can relax and recharge during breaks, with extra gifts including hand creams, facial wipes, tissues, radios and mental health resources
- awarded emergency grants to help patients and their families who find themselves in financial hardship, supporting their travel, food, accommodation and, in some difficult circumstances, funeral costs
- provide emergency bereavement support for the families of NHS staff who have sadly died caring for patients with coronavirus, helping our hospitals offer the best possible care and support at an unimaginably difficult time
- fund an upgrade to the wifi service across our hospitals, giving patients, staff and volunteers access to faster, reliable internet and helping them stay connected to their loved ones
- open three temporary pop-up shops for NHS staff, providing free access to food, drinks, toiletries and other essential supplies
