Story
Hearing the news that you have Cancer and will be embarking on chemo or immunotherapy can be devastating and overwhelming to our patients.
We want to make those patients feel cared for beyond the medical treatment that they receive, and we hope that you will join us in our mission. Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity are working in partnership with Cancer Services at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust to provide Heart of Headland Boxes to patients receiving chemo and immunotherapy at our hospitals.

This project is the idea of Amy, one of the Nurse Specialists who looks after these patients every day
"My name is Amy and I am the Breast Oncology Nurse Specialist at Royal Cornwall Hospital.
I have been working in Cancer Services here for the last 5 years and have gone from working on the inpatient ward, giving inpatient treatments, and working on the Headland Unit administering day case chemo and immunotherapy, to now supporting breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
It has come to my attention that there are lots of things that we recommend to our patients to help them during their treatment regime, such as buying a thermometer, pill pots to organise their medications, hand creams, cotton hats, relaxation products, ginger tea, sucking boiled sweets, using a soft toothbrush, keeping hydrated, using simple products, bringing items to the unit to keep them occupied.
My wish is to provide each patient starting on their chemo/immunotherapy journey with us, a Heart of Headland Box which contains all these items and some added extras. We want to make our patients feel an extra level of support and care beyond the medical care that we provide at what can be a very difficult and daunting time for them. We medically manage side effects by giving anti emetics and supportive meds, wouldn't it be great to give each patient a box of goodies to help them even more?
I hope that you will choose to support this project and help us do more for our patients. Thank you."
