Story
Our Healing Hearts Appeal aims to raise £100,000 to fund medical equipment and vital resources at Royal Brompton Hospital.
Royal Brompton is the UKs leading specialist heart and lung hospital and treats some of the most seriously ill children in the country. Many of our patients have life-limiting conditions and will require frequent and often lengthy admissions in hospital for surgery and on-going treatment for the rest of their lives.
Our appeal will enable us to fund lifesaving medical equipment and specialist resources for the paediatric intensive care unit and children's ward to improve care for young patients and to help aid their recovery and promote wellbeing.
Please Help Us Heal Hearts to ensure they have access to the latest equipment and resources not normally funded by the NHS.
With money raised from the appeal we aim to purchase new 'state of the art' heart monitors for each bay in the children's ward at Royal Brompton Hospital. These touch screen machines use the latest technology and will provide tailored monitoring for each child. They are also wireless which means that staff can monitor patients remotely.
We will also be funding small pieces of medical equipment that will benefit 1000s of patients. Here are just some of ways the appeal will help.
- The appeal will fund portable oxygen (SATs) monitors so children can be safely monitored away from the ward.
- We will be able to fund more specialist equipment like fibre optic lights for our young patients to use on Rose ward and PICU. This kind of sensory equipment makes a huge difference to children of all ages, encouraging them to touch, play and explore and can also be a calming relaxation aid to promote wellbeing and help with their recovery whilst in hospital.
- To make things a little easier for our young patients we will provide additional INR machines. They test blood with just a simple finger prick and can also be used at home so that parents / carers do not have to continually bring them into hospital for blood tests to check clotting levels. This helps promote emotional wellbeing as some children find blood tests quite challenging and stressful.
