We help improve the quality of life for children living with a wide variety of complex and life-shortening conditions. Our experienced team provides multi-faceted support for families during these incredibly hard times and when life comes to an end, we are there to help them survive the loss of their child.
Jail & Bail 2023
On Wednesday 11th October, we will be locking 10 willing 'prisoners' up, only to be released once they have each reached their bail!
The event takes place at Oxford Castle & Prison where the participants are given a police escort to the jail and then locked up for the day. Using only a mobile and their laptops, they will be reaching out to their networks and contacts to raise their bail of £999!
If you would like to support our prisoners please select their individual fundraising pages to read more.
Every year we care for around 175 children and their families from across Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. We provide essential holistic support during some of the most difficult times they will face, while helping them create precious memories to treasure forever.
So that you can understand the real life impact your support could have for local families and children living with life limiting and terminal illnesses we would like to share with you just one example of the care and service we provide for our families.
Tillie, from Oxfordshire, was born in January 2021 during lockdown. She was her mother’s fourth child and had a healthy birth. But, a day later they noticed Tillie had breathing difficulties. She was rushed to hospital, later ending up at the John Radcliffe Hospital on a life support machine. Just six days into little Tillie’s life, a decision was made to turn off life support. This is when she came to Helen & Douglas House for end-of-life care.
Over two years later, Tillie has defied all odds and is a regular visitor to the hospice for supportive stays. Tillie and her family come to Helen & Douglas House for both regular supportive stays and for complex symptom management. Having time away from being a carer gives Tillie’s mum and dad, Jodie and Darrell, time to spend together as a couple. But feel happy to know that Tillie is being cared for and, if she is in pain, or crying, she’s still safe.
