Story
Hayes Davidson are very proud to organise the HD5K Run for the 2nd year in a row to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Alan Davidson, the architectural visualisation pioneer and our founder, was thrilled to be able to attend the inaugural HD5K run in May 2018. Sadly, Alan died a few months later, he had been diagnosed with MND in 2012 and courageously bore the illness until his death last August.
Motor neurone disease (MND) describes a group of diseases that affect the nerves (motor neurones) in the brain and spinal cord that tell your muscles what to do. With MND, messages from these nerves gradually stop reaching the muscles, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste. It is a cruel and terminal illness that decimates the mobility, communication and respiratory functions, leaving families and loved ones helpless in its wake.
The Ice bucket Challenge in 2015 gave tremendous impetus to research projects across the world in the fight to find a cure and to be able to halt or slow the progress of MND. Alongside research projects, the MNDA funds multiple initiatives across the UK to support MND patients and their families in their daily struggle to manage.
The final donation to the MNDA last year exceeded £60k. The Alan Davidson Foundation will again match fund all donations made for this event and we all hope we can reach that amazing result for HD5K 2019. To put this amount in context, £60k supports a full-time MND specialist nurse position, a PhD Graduate researcher for 18 months,
Thank you for your fantastic support!
