A new kind of Hackney1000!
At Hackney Quest, we've been supporting local young people and families to reach their potential since 1988. We provide long term projects for the benefit of families and young people at risk of social exclusion; positive activities, family support, mentoring, adult and youth volunteering and much, much more.
We have run a number of Hackney1000 events in the local community, at which our staff, volunteers, young people, families and friends have worked together as a team to achieve 1000 kilometres, by running, walking, cycling, jogging, skipping their way around Well Street Common.
This year, to adjust to the current situation, we'll combine kilometres run/walked/cycled/skipped etc. [in safe, socially distanced ways] with hours spent on whatever fundraising challenge people choose to do! We're going to have people doing sponsored silences, knitathons, lipsync marathons, a karaoke marathons, all sorts! And when we add up all the kilometres travelled plus the 10 min chunks (equivalent of 1km) spent on challenges, we're aiming to reach at least 1000!
All the money raised will go on our work supporting local young people and families who are in difficulties because of the COVID-19 crisis. We are delivering food, toiletries and IT equipment on a weekly basis; running online youth sessions; providing 1:1 mentoring over the phone; liaising with schools and other professionals to coordinate support; and helping other organisations in the local community. The images below give an insight into what we have been doing over the past few weeks.
