Story
Gympanzees, is a local charity, based around Bristol, and created by our CEO and founder, Stephanie Wheen. As a physiotherapist, Steph identified a gap in support for disabled children and young people, aged between 0-25 years, a safe, accessible and inclusive place where our families can come to enjoy fun and exercise and meet other families to reduce isolation and allow children to be themselves.
The charity has proven the concept through 6 years of Pop Up services across Bristol seeing over 23,000 visitors over 140 days at Easter and Summer sessions, available to all, including individual families, groups and schools.
As a result Gympanzees purchased a building at the old Aust services, near the severn bridge, offering 43,000sqft of space, 14acres of land including a woodland, and 500 parking spaces.
Our Project Home was launched last September and we have already raised over £2m but still have a long way to go. To ensure we have time to demolish and re-build a purpose built centre we need to raise £8m to enable us to open our doors to families in June 2026.
The centre will be open 364 days a year, 7 days a week, and will welcome approximately 200,000 visitors a year, from across the UK, as this is the first of its kind.
