Story

Grayson is 4-5 years old and was picked up as a stray from Howden. He was unneutered and needed a dental.

Originally he was quite bad tempered and aggressive, he had a dental and was neutered, chipped and vaccinated. After months of treatment and love from our team, Grayson settled nicely and has grown accustomed to the comforts of life.

He really is a stunning looking boy, with a blue/silver coat, he now chirrups, is playful, he can be picked up and loves sitting on his fosterers knee.

Just as his life was improving, he was sadly diagnosed with glaucoma, despite treatment the glaucoma worsened and seemed more painful.

After months of consultations with our vets, it was decided that the best treatment for Grayson was to remove his eye and give him time to heal and recuperate.

Feline glaucoma, like human glaucoma is a condition in which the watery fluid (aqueous humor) contained in the front part of the eye, just behind the lens is unable to drain normally. The resulting accumulation of this fluid puts pressure on the optic nerve which leads from the eye to the brain.

The procedure to surgically remove a cat's eye is called enucleation, which will cost around £700. Grayson will have the fur around his eye shaved, his eyeball and eyelids removed and the wound stitched up.

Grayson is the third cat after Henna and Asher to have to undergo this operation in the last month.

Henna has since been adopted and has a wonderful 2nd chance, thank you to everyone who donated and made that possible. She is now called Penny Pumpkin and improving everyday.

Asher has recovered and is currently up for adoption, awaiting his 2nd chance.

An operation like this can cost a significant amount for our charity. In this instance, It has nearly cost £600 to medically treat Grayson already without this surgery. That doesn’t include his care, food, shelter or any enrichment either. And then there’s his surgery and aftercare on top of this.

Goole RSPCA receives no government funding, therefore we rely on fundraising and donations from kind supporters and animal lovers.

Our adoption fee of £85, will in no way even help to cover the treatment or medical assistance Grayson has had to have.

We never put a healthy cat to sleep, and Grayson will have a happy life ahead of him if we are able to find him a new home after this surgery.

Are you able to help Grayson get his new home?
